The Global Punjabi Association (GPA), Chandigarh Tri-city Chapter, held a book reading session on 24 July 2025 at GPA Chandigarh Tricity Chapter’s office. Lt. Gen. RS Sujlana (retd) was invited to present a reading of his latest book, ‘Peasants to Warriors.’ The book highlights the evolution of peace-loving farmers into formidable soldiers on the lines of the teachings of the Sikh Gurus and the Punjabi traditions for standing up for peace and justice.

The book is a historical account tracing the evolution of the Sikh soldier over 250 years. The book delves into the journey of the Sikh community from a largely agrarian background to becoming formidable warriors, highlighting their military traditions, faith, and significant historical events. The book is divided into 6 parts a and follows a chronological and thematic progression of evolution of Sikh Warrior from being a humble peasant. The book also includes appendices on military geography of Punjab and ascetic warriors, along with a bibliography and index.

General RS Sujlana, a fourth generation Army man has served in the Sikh regiment. He commanded a Corps in Punjab and was later Commandant Indian Military Academy. Post retirement he has remained Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission. He takes keen interest in Punjab history and is a prolific writer.
